Recently I decided to start making my own dog treats for several reasons. First, I like to know what’s in my dog’s treats and two it’s cheaper. I collected all kinds of recipes and then I experimented, some of them my dogs liked and some not so much. I came across The Bow Wow Bisto dog treat maker on Amazon. It cost me about $35 and I have to say I love it.
The Bow Wow Bistro comes with a small book of recipes and a dog bone shaped cookie cutter. The cookie cutter is just the right size to fit into the Bow Wow Bistro, this treat maker will bake ten treats at a time and takes about 7 to 8 minutes.
Once a week I make enough treats to last my dogs all week. It doesn’t take long and I have the piece of mind to know that they are getting a great treat. You must keep in mind that the treats that you will make do not have any preservatives so they must be used within one to three weeks, depending on how long you bake them. The crunchier they are the longer they will last. Here’s a recipe that came with the Bow Wow Bistro.
Peanut Butter Paw Pops
2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 cup of rolled oats
1/2 cup of organic (no salt) peanut butter
1 cup of hot water
Mix these ingredients together and roll out to about 1/4 inch thick, cut the dough out with the bone shaped cookie cutter that was provided and bake. You can bake from 4 to 8 minutes depending on how soft or crunchy you want them. Allow to cool before serving.
Winter can be a depressing time for us as humans, but what about your dog? Well to be honest if you have a small dog that stays inside most of the time, winter probably doesn’t bother them much. But larger dogs that like to get outside and play may be affected.
Cold weather really doesn’t bother larger dog very much as long as the time they spend outside is limited. The colder it is out the less time you and your dog should spend outside.
Always keep in mind that the salt or snow melt they spread on the sidewalks and roads are not good for dogs. The main thing that is a concern – it dries out the pads of their feet and may cause cracking and bleeding. Always clean your dog’s feet off when they come in from outside to prevent this from happening.

I will be posting to this blog at least once a week possibly more. In this blog, I will add treat recipes, review dog foods, and dog toys that have been used by myself or a close friend. There are so many different products out there that it’s hard to figure out what’s good and what’s not. I will do my best to help sort through some of these questions.

Making treats for your best friend is one way to show him/her how much you love them. What’s the best thing about homemade dog treats? The best thing is that you know exactly what’s in them. Here is one of my favorite no-bake treat.
Peanut Butter and Rolled Oat Balls
1 cup of organic or natural peanut butter
3 cups of rolled oats
1/2 cup of low or fat-free milk
combine peanut butter and milk in a large mixing bowl and stir vigorously.
Add oats slowly, in half cup increments (this will be a thick mixture)
Scoop the ball out with a cookie scooper or tablespoon. Roll them with damp hands to make a ball.
Place on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper or wax paper – refrigerate for one hour.
These treats will last in the refrigerator for up to three weeks and can be frozen for up to four months.

Dogs, the perfect companion, they love you no matter what. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than coming home to a pair of beautiful loving eyes filled with delight at the sight of you.
Many of us want to give our companions the best, therefore we seek healthy, tasty food and treats for our best friends. It’s because of my love for my four rescue Pomeranians that I added homemade dog treats to my dog grooming salon and my online store.
